When it comes to "re-doing" someones work, there are still copyright issues, even if ever bit of it was done by your hands...mostly because even the the artwork is yours, the concept is still theirs and they probably feel that someone is getting attention off their original idea, which they hoped would remain unique...Some probably wouldn't mind though, and just consider it "fan-art" of their work, and actually take it as a compliment, but to be safe, better ask the artist first
